What is ASGA?

The Only National Organization Built Exclusively for Student Government

The American Student Government Association is the only organization in America entirely focused on Student Government. Not leadership in general, not higher education broadly. Student Government.

Founded in 2004, ASGA gives SGs at every type of institution the tools, research, training, and community they need to be more effective, more ethical, and more influential on campus.

  • Hundreds of member institutions across all 50 states and internationally
  • 11 training conferences a year, including the National SG Summit in Washington, DC
  • The nation’s only dedicated SG Think Tank
  • One-on-one consulting and a full SG Toolbox
  • Profiles and Grades on every SG in the nation

A Brief History

Built From the Ground Up

ASGA was founded in spring 2003 by Butch Oxendine, founder and editor-in-chief of Student Leader magazine, after surveys of 225+ SG leaders confirmed a critical gap: no national organization focused exclusively on Student Governments.

ASGA launched March 17, 2004. First conference: March 9, 2005 at Villanova University. Today: nearly 1,000 member institutions and 50,000+ trained.
