What Members Say

ASGA has helped thousands of students and advisors.

I have changed roles in the college and I am now serving as Registrar. I just wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for your support and guidance you have offered to assist me in my role as SGA Advisor. I REALLY appreciated each of your workshops and the handouts were phenomenal. This is the best organization I have belonged to because each of you have developed very practical tools that concentrate on the core of what is needed to do our jobs well. The discussion board was a very resourceful tool as well. I truly enjoyed working with each of you.Brad Thomas • Registrar • Technical College of the Low Country

As a new advisor, I can tell you that you have already picked a great place to start. I attended the ASGA conference in Florida for SGA advisors and was greatly enlightened with information and ideas that I have used to make our SGA a stronger and more recognized organization. I am proof that ASGA is an awesome resource to assist you in getting where you want to be. Buckle up for the ride when you attend the conference. Anticipate gaining a lot of information.Towanda J. Williams • Assistant Director, Office of Career Services • Mississippi University for Women

Our SG seemed to be stagnant and we weren’t sure why or how to change it, so we worked with ASGA leaders via telephone conference and listened to some great advice and got some ideas regarding methods to begin changing our government to become more effective in our school.

My student government leaders and I have also utilized the extensive ASGA database that has information on other colleges and universities in the U.S. We’ve used the data they’ve collected to get ideas regarding signature SGA programs, how to form more positive and effective relationships with our administrators, and even how to work on getting a student seat on the board of trustees.

It is wonderful to be able to talk with someone who truly understood the needs of our student government and was able to offer practical advice. ASGA is always readily available to offer help.Elizabeth Finochio • Coordinator of Student Activities • Albany College of Pharmacy

ASGA did a great job helping us to set goals for our SGA. As a result, we have implemented online elections and now have a current SG website, in addition to a new Student Lounge complete with pool tables, an Internet jukebox, and arcade games, plus a revamped “signature program” — SGA Discount Cards.Ashley H. Our SGA attended last year’s Philadelphia conference. I have good news for you! After after seven years of bad luck SGA is finally back on track. Out of 1,200 students, 301 voted– about 25% of our student body. We, of course, wanted to thank ASGA for your resources, experts and daily e-mails on issues. Without ASGA, we would have not accomplished all this.Vanessa Valdes • SG President • St. Thomas University, FL

This last SGA accomplished more than any SGA/ASB has in recent memory. Yet, we all still point to the day in June when ASGA came here and trained us. Yeah, we had a lot of talent, but you guys gave us the rudder we needed to steer the ship to success. I cannot express in words how grateful to you I am for all of your help. This next year should be incredible.

We just had our first on-line elections. We improved from an even 2% last year to 4.35% this year. We used a lot of ASGA’s ideas and they all worked to varying degrees. As we are a commuter campus, the one essential thing we did was to enlist the help of the faculty. They’d make a short announcement to each class each day reminding them to vote. They were very eager to help us reach our goal, a modest 3%, and they’d weigh in during the week to see how we were doing. The candidates were very creative in their campaigning, and the whole voting process became a bonding experience for our campus. I can’t wait to implement a few more of ASGA’s ideas next year.Don Turney • Dean of Students • Bakersfield College

We have benefited immensely since taking a more active role in ASGA. Not only have we found new issues to take and new initiatives to try out, we’ve also found more efficient ways to do the simpler things involved in student government. Being able to network with other institutions similar to ours has given us ideas that we had never thought of before, as well as indicated areas where we could use improvement. We are excited for the National Summit in the fall since we know it will provide us with a whole new batch of ideas.Ryan J. Palm • Treasurer, Mercyhurst Student Government • Mercyhurst College
