Mission Statement

“The American Student Government Association will provide all Student Government leaders and advisors nationwide with networking, research, and information resources and will teach them how to become more effective, ethical, and influential leaders on their campuses. ASGA also will promote the advancement of SGs, conduct research as the nation’s only “SG Think Tank,” and advocate the importance of having a vibrant, autonomous Student Government organization at every institution in America.”

What do the words Connect, Commit, and Serve mean to your SG?

ASGA believes they’re critical in helping your organization to grow and improve.

Connect.

At our conferences and through ASGA membership, you’ll network with other student leaders and administrators from across the country. In the process, you’ll learn from each other, gathering new ideas that you can bring back to your campuses. You’ll realize that your SG isn’t the only one dealing with apathy, retention, or election-turnout issues. When you connect with peers, you can brainstorm solutions that build on each other’s successes and failures.

Commit.

Becoming a great Student Government doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, sacrifice, and a willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done. Commit to learning, serving your institution, fulfilling your job responsibilities, and completing your projects. And above all, commit to constantly improving. Along the way, ASGA will challenge your SG members, officers, and advisors to keep aiming higher.

Serve.

Being a student leader isn’t about boosting your ego or getting a better job after graduation. It’s about serving your campus, your community, and your fellow students. Listen to your constituents and do your best to meet their needs. More often than not, you’ll leave your campus a better place than it was when you first arrived.
