Colgate University

Colgate University’s Student Government Association is recognized for its active, student-centered approach to campus advocacy and engagement. During the Spring 2026 semester, Colgate SGA reported more than 40 sponsored events and 25 initiatives, reflecting a student government that is highly visible and consistently involved in campus life. Among its efforts, SGA hosted Brown Bag Discussions on issues such as campus discourse and changes to the course schedule, creating direct opportunities for students to discuss concerns, ask questions, and engage with important institutional conversations. Colgate SGA also helped revive Charter Day in partnership with the Student Activities Association, showing its commitment not only to advocacy, but also to strengthening campus traditions and community pride. Through its combination of programming, dialogue, and responsiveness to student concerns, Colgate University SGA demonstrates the qualities of an effective and forward-thinking student government.

Benjamin Hartmann

Ramapo College of New Jersey

Benjamin Hartmann has demonstrated a strong commitment to student leadership, advocacy, and public service at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Passionate about law, public service, and creating meaningful impact, Hartmann worked his way up through student government before becoming Student Body President, previously serving as both Secretary and Chief of Staff. That progression reflects his dedication to the organization, his institutional knowledge, and his willingness to take on increasing responsibility in service to his peers. His leadership is grounded in representation, campus connection, and a belief that student government should be approachable, responsive, and focused on improving the student experience. Through his role, Hartmann continues to use student government as a platform for meaningful advocacy, helping ensure that student voices are heard and that campus leadership remains connected to the needs and concerns of the student body.

Kimberly Abrego

Alamo Colleges District

Kimberly Abrego is being recognized for her dedication to student leadership, advocacy, and inclusive student support across the Alamo Colleges District. Her path to higher education reflects a deep and varied commitment to service. Before entering higher education, Abrego served in the United States Navy, where she developed a strong foundation in discipline, leadership, and responsibility. Abrego’s passion for student leadership began through her own service as President of the Student Government Association at St. Philip’s College. That experience led her into higher education roles, including Student Organization Coordinator and, currently, Advisor for the Student District Council. Her work is grounded in a commitment to serving marginalized communities and helping students achieve their goals. Through her mentorship, advocacy, and steady support, Abrego helps create inclusive environments where students are empowered to lead, grow, and realize their full potential.
