Real Outcomes Reported by Student Government Leaders, Advisors, and Administrators

These are actual quotes from actual people at actual institutions after working with ASGA at our conferences, through consulting, and as members. No embellishment needed.

You gave us your best — and it was excellent. The students were buzzing at breakfast Sunday and all the way home. They were still buzzing today.
Ken Bedini • Director, Student Center & Activities • Eastern Connecticut State University

💰 Budget & Finance Results

I made the presentation last night to the Board and they were impressed. Next month our Student Trustee will be asking our Board to support a $5 activity fee. This will help out so much since this year our AS budget was $0.

Compensation was approved for all executive and committee chair members. It went to a 4.5 hour meeting and in the end your reasoning and advice played a critical role in helping make the decision. It was invaluable and greatly, greatly appreciated!

I’ve heard the members still talking about “winnable issues” and devising ways to implement some of the programs you touched on. They really have been inspired and talking about SGA in a very positive way all through orientation. You set them on the right course.

Our Student Government at UK hosted Butch Oxendine as our retreat leader. It was the best retreat we’ve had. He brought great materials and spent hours with us consulting on issues ranging from publicity to how to build a better town-gown relationship.

He doesn’t just give your organization a lecture. He spends one-on-one time with you and your fellow leaders. His knowledge of Student Governments across the country really allows you to evaluate yourself and develop a plan to help your organization be the best it can be.

The great thing about Butch is that he never stops helping you. Some consultants give you some materials and a speech, then you are on your own. Butch is different. He’s always available to give you advice on any issue. It is amazing how accessible he is.

Because of Butch’s help our organization has been able to start work on getting a student on our city council and host a student pep rally with 10,000 students in attendance. One of the great challenges for Student Government is figuring out how to communicate with the student body — Butch has a ton of great ideas on how to build a publicity campaign. We used his strategies and turned out 10,000 students for one of our pep rallies.

There’s one national student government expert. If you are a student leader, you need to talk to him. We did, and it is paying huge dividends.

I attended your conference in D.C. in 2007. Since then our student government has continued to send students. We implemented Robert’s Rules shortly after attending. Our weekly meetings were much more structured and constructive as a result. This led to us being much more proactive on many topics.
